This week's Gunsmoke offering is aptly named The Wake --- and it is one the truly iconic episodes to be featured on this adult Western.

Gus Mathers has come to Dodge City to bury his friend and partner, Orson Boggs.  He says that it was Orson's last request to have a proper wake.  And Gus throws a real hum-dinger with free drinks for everyone.

Along the way, however, Matt and Chester begin to question how Orson died.  Their investigation takes leads them to Orson Boggs' widow and a few very unique twists and turns.  Soon Matt begins to realize there is much more to the puzzle than meets the eye.

This story is warm, funny, touching and filled with surprises all along the way.  No wonder The Wake is one of my favorite episodes of Gunsmoke.  Enjoy!

In this episode of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar Ralph Kerns, administrator with Great Plains Guaranty, is eager to reach Johnny Dollar. The subject is one Edgar Blake, Chief of Police in Greensport, Missouri --- a town Kerns says is best described as "wide open."

Kern's problem is that Blake has been murdered.  Furthermore, the main suspect is the chief's very young and vivacious widow --- who is demanding to be paid the death benefit on a fairly recent $50,000 life insurance policy issued by Great Plains.  So Johnny is off to Missouri where he uncovers a web crime, deception and intrigue.

This is part 3 of a 5-part serial.  The four additional episodes are played respectively in other shows.

Many of the nations high school’s football teams were invited to played in post-season junior bowl games last week. Madison High School, where our Miss Brooks teaches English, also received a bowl bid -- to the Cereal Bowl!

Because Mister Boynton will be attending the game, Connie is desperate to find a way to go. The only way she can attend, however, is if Mr. Conklin assigns her to be a chaperone on one of the team busses.  He's promised to give the assignment to either Miss Brooks or Miss Enright --- Connie's rival for the affections of the handsome Biology teacher.

Only one of the teachers will get the plum assignment --- and with it the chance to be with Mr. Boynton at the dance after the game.

Listen to These Programs:  Frontier Gentleman: The Well   ~   Gunsmoke: The Wake   ~   Escape!:  Judgment Day at Deer Crossing   ~   The Six Shooter: Silver Threads

Show #9 is one of the most entertaining shows you will find on this site..  Why?  Because I seriously feel it offers four of the very best episodes of four of the very best radio programs ever produced.

Frontier Gentleman offers a story called, simply, The Well.  This is a simple story about a small homestead family of three that a cattle baron is trying to drive off their land.  Kendall happens to stop for a drink of water shortly before the assault by the rich rancher's men and sides with the homesteader against almost impossible odds.

That is when tragedy strikes.  Their little girl, who is unable to talk, goes missing.  After looking frantically for her, all parties end up asking the same question: Could she have fallen down the new well being dug by her father?
