Gunsmoke - Smoking Out the Beedles

Smoking Out the Beedles is an iconic episode of Gunsmoke that was written by John Meston.  When Pat Clay produces a court order to remove Jim Beedle and his family off his land, it becomes Matt's job to serve the papers and move the squatters.  To hear Jim Beedle tell it, however, he bought the land fair and square -- even if he can't produce the deed.

It is up to Matt to figure it all out and you will love his ingenious plan to get the Beedles out of their home.  In fact Matt's plan makes for one of the best, most exciting (and most fun!) scenes in any of the episodes written for this classic Western series.

The story centers on a young newlywed wife whose husband announces he bought a chicken farm and they are moving to the country.

What follows is a hilarious story about coping in a home in constant need of repair with no running water, no electricity, working from four in the morning to nine at night --- and dealing with their new neighbors, the Kettles.

Frontier Gentleman offers a story called, simply, The Well.  This is a simple story about a small homestead family of three that a cattle baron is trying to drive off their land.  Kendall happens to stop for a drink of water shortly before the assault by the rich rancher's men and sides with the homesteader against almost impossible odds.

That is when tragedy strikes.  Their little girl, who is unable to talk, goes missing.  After looking frantically for her, all parties end up asking the same question: Could she have fallen down the new well being dug by her father?
