		<description>Dear Grandpa Chet:

Thanks for your comment.

Since I didn&#039;t know the answer, I forwarded it to our trivia
expert and researcher par excellence, Patricia.

Patricia and Walden Hughes do a live show each Saturday
night on Yesterday USA. Their show starts at 10:30
Eastern time and lasts pretty much all night. They
take live phone calls and get many questions of this
nature --- so give a listen!

Here is where you can hear them:

http://yesterdayusa.com

Patricia informs us that there were two theme songs
used by Bergen:

Theme 1:
Edgar Bergen &amp; Charlie McCarthy Show [Chase and Sanborn]
from the 1918 musical &quot;Head Over Heels&quot;
Composer: Jerome Kern

Theme 2:
Kingdom Comin&#039; (An&#039; De Year Ob Jubilo – 1862)
arranged like &quot;Happy Days Are Here Again&quot;
Composer: Henry C. Work (a civil war melody arranged by Ray Noble
used 10 years later in &quot;Doodletown Fifers&quot; by Sauter-Finegan)

I believe the song you have in mind is #2, which is best known
as &quot;Year of Jubilo&quot; and is an old civil war song.

I seem to remember this being whistled in a cartoon back
in my childhood days.

I have attached a fun recording of it here:

http://theoldtimeradioshow.com/audio/year-of-jubilo.mp3

Hope this answers your question, and thanks for taking
the time to comment.

		<description>Talking about themes? Do you know what was the theme for the Edgar Bergan/Charlie McCarthy Show? It was also used in a couple of cartoons by Tex Avery (whistled by the main character, a wolf). I&#039;ve been bugged about this for years!

		<description>Ken:

The theme was taken from Ein Heldenleben (&quot;A Hero&#039;s Life&quot;), a tone poem
by Richard Strauss.

Hope that helps.

		<description>I want to know the title of the theme for the radio show &quot;The Big Story&quot;. It was about a large metropolitan newspaper crime reporter.

Thank you.</description>
